Dear NSBBC Families, We have received several emails about registration and tryouts, and we are working hard to get those solidified. Thank you for your patience. We have been working with the Bellevue School District to secure gym space for tryouts, as well as trainings and practices, and are expecting to receive confirmation from the district shortly. As soon as the gym space is confirmed, we will open up registration and communicate all the details. In light of the district’s delay in confirming gym space, we are pushing back tryouts by one week from our initial plan. We are now hoping to hold tryouts the evenings of Tuesday, September 26th and Thursday, September 28th . As soon as we have this confirmed definitively, we will let you all know that registration is open, provide all the details, and ask that you spread the word! Please prepare to have your athlete attend both tryout dates. If you have an immovable conflict, we will ask that you let us know so alternative arrangements can be made on a case-by-case basis. Please note: As previously communicated, this year we are hoping to expand the program again (as it was pre-COVID) to include 4th & 5th grade teams. The fee for tryouts will be $10 total (covering both tryout dates), to help us offset the district’s increased gym fees. This is a substantial reduction from last year’s tryout fee, as we’re anticipating more kids with the addition of 4th and 5th grade athletes. We look forward to getting news to you as soon as we get it. NSBBC Board “One Team, One Family”

Dear NSSBBC families, We hope this note finds our families doing well and having an amazing summer. It’s hard to believe that we’re only a few weeks away from the beginning of the school year, and kicking off the 2023-2024 season! We are excited about the upcoming season and continuing to grow our athletes and our program. We are finalizing our plans for tryouts and practices for the fall. Dates and locations TBD shortly, but we are targeting the 2nd or 3rd week of September for tryouts, with trainings to follow. Key Points and Asks: Gym access: Tryout and Training Dates, Times, and Locations will be shared as soon as we have them. Bellevue Schools will not give us access to their gyms until after the school year begins. We are in conversations with other gyms as well. We would like to increase the program to include 4th and 5th grade teams this year (in addition to 6th-8th grade teams), if there is sufficient community interest and coaching support. Please spread the word! To that end… We need more coaches! If you or anyone you know is interested in coaching, please reach out to us at board@newportselectbasketball.com. Parents who agree to coach a team will receive half off the Newport registration fee for one child. We want this to be a fun, low-pressure commitment, and no prior select coaching experience is necessary. We will be here to provide training, resources, and support for our parent-coaches throughout the season. Cost: As we secure resources, we will be able to provide the cost for fall training/tryouts and the season. Annual Membership Meeting: Please mark your calendars for the evening of Tuesday, September 26, 2023 for our Annual Membership Meeting (virtual via Teams), where you’ll have a chance to hear an update from the Board on the state of the program, and expectations for the upcoming year, along with ample opportunity for Q&A While the board works on logistics for gym space and coaches, we can always use more help. How? Spread the word about NSSBBC. Consider joining our board. We have some board turnover this year, with a few kids aging out of the program. We are so grateful for the parents who have already stepped up and indicated an interest in joining the board, but we can always use more volunteers to help with fundraising, gym coordination, tournaments, communications, etc. Refer the program to any prospective coaches you know, who love mentoring and coaching. Non-parent coaches are paid! Be the support system you have always been. Our program will start with fall trainings and tryouts at the Hidden Valley Field House in Bellevue, two evenings per week (typically Monday and Thursday, with a few exceptions), from Thursday, Sept. 8th – Monday, Oct. 17th. This is a Junior full court (74 ft – 3 Glass Backboard Hoops). Grades 6th – 8th grade (Special request for 5th graders who want to play up) Beginning the week of Oct 24th, Team practices will be held at one of the local Middle schools feeding Newport High (details to be announced). In our previous communication, we shared a new approach to how we intend to build our teams this season. Highlighted you will see two (2) days indicated as tryout days, Sept. 15th and Oct. 3rd. These two days are mandatory for all players who are interested in playing on an NSBBC team this season, whether they are participating in the fall training or want to walk in and tryout only. If you have an immovable conflict for either of these two tryout days, please let us know as soon as you can. We are a select program and are building teams to compete at the highest levels, so one goal of the training program is to provide additional time to watch, train, and mentor players, while still offering the drop in tryout option. Team invites will go out around Oct 10th and you will have 3 days to accept Please note the dates and times. Due to limited gym space and our desire to get started, we took what was available on weekday evenings in order to get us under way ASAP. There are no penalties for missing a training, and it will not impact whether or not your player makes a team. Dear NSBBC families, I hope this note finds our families doing well and coming off an amazing summer. We are excited about the upcoming season and continuing to grow our athletes and our program. Although securing gym space has been a bit tricky this year, we are finalizing our plans for a preseason training that would lead into our team selections for the 2022-2023 season. Dates and locations TBD shortly . Traditionally NSBBC has hosted a typical 2-day tryout where players showcase their individual skills and teams are selected. However, building upon our learnings from prior seasons and following the success of last year’s pre-tryout trainings, we are exploring building our teams over the course of a month of training and scrimmages. This would be less focused on dribbling through cones and more around a player’s ability in game settings. If necessary, we may ask players to showcase their individual skills as well, particularly as coaches get ready to finalize rosters. Key Points: Gym access: Dates, Times and Location will be shared as soon as we have them. Bellevue Schools will not give us access to their gyms until after the school year begins. We are in conversations with other gyms. Training & tryout dates forthcoming We are organizing our coaching resources for team management and in house trainings We would like to field competitive teams at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels, and remain open to players playing up where it makes sense Practices and trainings will be 90 min two days per week, precise days and locations to follow Cost: As we secure resources, we will be able to deliver the cost for fall training/tryouts and the season. We would like to expand the program further, but this will all depend on coaching availability. We are currently interviewing additional coaching candidates. While the board works on logistics of gym space and coaches, we can always use more help. How? Spread the word about NSBBC Consider joining our board; we are still looking for volunteers who can help with fundraising, gym coordination, and communications Refer the program to any likeminded prospective coaches you know who love mentoring/coaching Be the support system you have always been. Dear NSBBC families, It is with great excitement NSBBC is announcing we will be hosting tryouts for grades 6th, 7th, & 8th only this season, due to limited gym space and coaching resources. We are allowing 5th graders who are interested to compete for a spot on the 6th grade team . We will not be fielding a 5th grade team The goal of NSBBC is to build a program where all players are given the chance to compete and get better, and while we have limited space, we are exploring our options. Based on tryout results & interest, NSBBC is considering an in-house training program for players not assigned to a team and are in 5th – 8th grade. This program will be organized and run by NSBBC and one of our coaches on the same night as our ETL teams. This aligns with our focus of “One Team, One Family” and provides an opportunity to bring players along with the existing teams and offer call up opportunities to league play when situations call for it. Tryout Details: Registration Link: https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/290378 Cost: $15 (If your currently enrolled in the Mon/Wed training your fee has been collected already) Key Points: Parents will not be allowed in the gym for tryouts due to school COVID policy Masks will be required for participation Players to bring their own basketball Parent approval to take players picture for accurate assessment Dates: Monday 10/18 6:00PM – 7:30PM (6th Grade) 7:30PM – 9:00PM (7th – 8th Grades) Wednesday 10/20 6:00PM – 7:30PM (6th Grade) 7:30PM – 9:00PM (7th – 8th Grades) Location : Tillicum MS for both days Saturday 10/23 Team Invitations: Acceptance must be made within 24 hours so we can offer spots to the next player if you chose not to play.
